As a musician, Carroll has worked primarily with her voice, mostly in New York City, performing western European and American music, Mediaeval to contemporary, in concerts and in a variety of staged works. She has joined other MfPers in improvised Soundpainting performances, conducted through hand and body signs created by Walter Thompson. Bracketing and threading through her vocal work has been her exploration of instruments, starting early with piano, violin, and French horn, and, most recently, embracing the bandonion and the ‘ud, to explore Argentine tango and classical Arabic music, respectively. Curiosity and a need to live music drive her life.
