Music for People’s Art of Improvisation workshop is for musicians and vocalists experienced in any musical tradition – classical, jazz, theater, rock, ethnic, avant-garde, etc. All instruments are welcome – acoustic and electric, winds and strings, hand drums and percussion, and homemade innovations. Prior experience in improvisation is not necessary, as this workshop is based on the concept that listening and imitation are the most fundamental musical skills. Credit: For College Credit and Graduate Credit: Students must register through SUNY and pay the SUNY course fee. For college credit and graduate credit for to http://home.fredonia.edu/gradstudies/ For CTLE (Continuing Teacher and Leader Education) or CEU (Continuing Education Unit) credit (37.5 hours), register below through Music for People.

Arrival/Departure Information for the Workshop: Onsite check-in starts at 4 PM on Sunday and the first workshop session is on Sunday evening at 7 PM. The workshop ends around noon on Friday. Early arrival (arrive on Saturday, July 28th) and late departure (depart on Saturday, August 4th) is in option at $55/night in the dorm.
Accomodations: Housing is located in one of the dormitories with meals provided in the Dining Hall. There are no restaurants on campus, but there is a Starbuck’s open during the day. Registrants are not required to stay on campus and meals at the dining hall are available for purchase individually pas as you go. As an alternative to staying on campus, there are nearby hotels to choose from as well as a nearby camp ground.
Location: Located in beautiful Chautauqua County, Fredonia State University of NY is the westernmost campus in the SUNY system. The region, home to the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, is less than an hour from Niagara Falls and is a vacation destination for many interested in arts, culture, and all-season recreation.

Enticing Offering: Music for People Graduate will be offering Improvisation in Color and Word: A Mindfulness Art Series within the workshop. This will be a daily offering of a quiet place to draw, color and write during the music making week.
