Elizabeth Byrd

Location: Colorado

Born in Waco, Texas, and raised in Atlanta, Liz began playing the cello when she was eleven years old. Formal classical training took her through the Atlanta Youth Orchestra under conductor Robert Shaw; the Georgia Academy of Music; UNC - Chapel Hill; North Carolina School of the Arts; and ultimately, Juilliard. While at Chapel Hill, she played in a masterclass for cellist David Darling while he was touring with the Paul Winter Consort. This experience validated her instinct to blend her cello’s voice with instruments outside of the limits of traditional classical instrumentation.

Her orchestra career has ranged from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra to the Mantovani Orchestra, and from Broadway shows to her tenure as principal cellist with the Palm Beach Pops. She has been on the faculty of Florida International University and SUNY-Stony Brook in Long Island, NY.

Liz and her cello entered the world of alternative medicine in 1998 when she was introduced by Dr. John Upledger to the International Society of Subtle Energy in Boulder, Colorado. Originator of Craniosacral Therapy, Upledger invited Liz to join his Upledger Institute Clinic in Palm Beach where she developed her techniques of vibration and tonal therapy. Her Healing Cello CDs are currently available on www.TheHealingCello.com.

Presently, Liz is the co-owner/director of a performing arts production company and performs with Cantelina (www.cantelina1.com) and Beyond the Wood (www.CarouselConcerts.com).
